Create Opportunities for Economically and Socially Marginalized Producers

The Village Wisdom team understands that Fair Trade is a way to provide economic development opportunities for marginalized communities. We work specifically with producer groups in rural areas that have little access to a sustainable marketplace.

Develop Transparent and Accountable Relationships

We work directly with artisan cooperatives and nonprofit organizations to create equitable relationships based on honesty and respect. Each member of the Village Wisdom team and partner agencies have defined roles and responsibilities and business agreements that are collaboratively developed.

Build Capacity

We help producers build capacity by developing local and global markets for crafts and apparel, as well as strengthening connections between producer groups. We are dedicated to sharing our knowledge and experience to facilitate training in businesses development, market information, and financial management.

Promote Fair Trade

We are dedicated to promoting the movement of fair trade through education and outreach, both in Asheville and on the ground in Uganda. We value our artisan partners and believe that a fair trade system brings respect for all levels of the supply chain.

Support Safe and Empowering Working Conditions

The Village Wisdom team believes that all artisans and producers deserve safe, healthy, and participatory work places. Our goal is to empower and support producers throughout the supply chain and to diminish discrimination.

Ensure the Rights of Children

We believe that all children should have the right to a safe environment and education. Village Wisdom advocates for the education for children instead of labor or exploitation.
